In my day to day work, Google Docs could help me by allowing me to edit with other people in real time. It could cut travel time and gas expense for me by allowing me to present and work with people at a distance. Since it is stored online, local hard drive failures won't impact my work. Plus... free is always good!

The "Tooling Around" blog is great! It shows and explains to readers how they can use various "tools" to make their online experience easier and more interesting. I also points out ways that each can be used to have greater access to the library.
I think having an "I Love the Library" badge is a neat idea!

I am not a big fan of wikis. I feel that they are somewhat of a hodgepodge of information and I somewhat distrust people's interpretations of facts. They also seem to be repetition of information that I would rather get from a more credible, official source. I also prefer more professionally designed and organized websites to the more generic look of a wiki.

I took a look around del.icio.us and also saw how CML divisions are utilizing this tool to tag resources to use for reference work. I think that is a great use of the site. One can just keep this site open in a tab on the computer and have a large list of great alternatives to use to answer customer questions and find exactly what they need quickly.

I also see the value for research purpose if you were, for instance, a college student who has to write papers on similar topics for your major. You can tag the good and credible sources of info that you find and tap into them later when needed again. This could be used in an HHC too. The HHCC could create a list of sites and tag them for use year after year, as long as the sites stay current and relevant.

I read Away from Icebergs, More Powerful Ways to Cooperate and To a Temporary Place in Time. I found To a Temporary Place in Time to be the most interesting of the 3. Envisioning her ideas about transitions of libraries from commondity to product to service to experience helped to expand my own thoughts about the library of the future. I believe we also need to be setting our sight on Library 3.0 and 4.0. These sound like the places I would like to visit!

I set up my Twitter account and my username is jessicamlk. I noticed "learnandplay" is following Chris Taylor, Helene Blowers and Gerald Schwab, to name just a few. I think libraries could use Twitter to quickly update staff on things like security incidents. My first microblog was about as dull as they come, but maybe I will be more creative in the future.

I like LibraryThing because I can keep an electronic list of books I've read and get recommendations and reviews from other members. I also find it interesting to see how many other people have the same book as me on their list.
